Evaluation of an industry-based sanitation protocol for full-size transport vehicles contaminated with porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus
نویسنده
چکیده
Objective: To test a protocol for sanitation of full-size commercial transport vehicles contaminated with porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), utilizing conditions found on commercial swine production units. Conditions included use of cold water for washing (21 ̊C), application of a commercial disinfectant via a low-pressure foamer, and rapid completion of ≤ 2 hours.

Evaluation of an industry-based sanitation protocol for transport vehicles contaminated with porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus
Methods: Model trailers were experimentally contaminated with PRRSV MN 30-100 and either pressure-washed with cold water alone (Treatment 1) or washed and then disinfected with modified potassium monopersulfate (Treatment 2), quaternary ammonium chloride (Treatment 3), or a phenolic product (Treatment 4), each applied using a hydrofoamer. In Phase One, the presence of PRRSV RNA was evaluated by...

Methods: Five donor pigs infected with PRRSV (Day 0) were confi ned within a full-size trailer for a 4-hour contamination period on Days 3 to 7 (fi ve replicates). After each contamination period, a group of fi ve PRRSV-naive recipients (25 pigs total) replaced the donor pigs in the pen for 4 hours. The pen was not washed or sanitized between donor and recipient groups. Recipients were tested f...

Mechanical transmission of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) throughout a coordinated sequence of events that replicated common farm worker behavior during warm weather (10 degrees C to 16 degrees C) was assessed using a field-based model. The model involved fomites (boots and containers), vehicle sanitation, transport, and personnel movement. In a previous study, the ...

Introduction Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) costs the US pork industry $1.8 million per day.1 Swine practitioners have been successful eliminating PRRS virus (PRRSv) from breeding herds by implementing herd closure-homogenization protocols.2 Implementation of these protocols has resulted in a source of PRRSv PCR-negative weaned pigs to be placed in growing facilities. A la...
متن کاملProduction and Evaluation of Virus-Like Particles Displaying Immunogenic Epitopes of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSV)
Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is the most significant infectious disease currently affecting the swine industry worldwide. Several inactivated and modified live vaccines (MLV) have been developed to curb PRRSV infections. However, the efficacy and safety of these vaccines are unsatisfactory, and hence, there is a strong demand for the development of new PRRS universal vac...
